Disassemble V Series

(an ongoing project)

Portraits of energy made with ´Honeycomb´ and hand-made wire screening materials weaved with a printed portrait in fabric.

These 9 unique three-dimensional hand-constructed works in this series are part of my continuous exploration of portraiture as a reflection of the energy and complexity of the human being. As when we see our face reflected in running water, it’s never static—we are constantly moving, our states of mind shifting and evolving; we are like a perfect machine creating moments in our life.

Each of these sculptural constructions begins with a portrait of a Mexican woman wearing a vibrant colored dress known to represent the region of the State of Oaxaca in which they live. I use sublimation to print the portrait on fabric, then cut it into strips to be woven through the ´honeycomb´ steel wire or copper hand-made screening materials, making their forms dimensional once again.
